The Blessings of Marriage

And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion…. Gen 1:28

When reading the above passage it is easy to overlook the obvious. Many times my focus has been on what God said versus what God did. God blesses the marriage before imparting the vision and mission of marriage, which involved fruitfulness, multiplying and all the other Kingdom initiatives.

God blesses the marriage union of man and woman. To be blessed by God is more than a term of endearment. God gave them, as a couple, the capacity to fulfill the commands initiated by his mouth. God spoke a blessing over the couple before presenting the task. In other words, he empowered them to be successful before even pronouncing what he wanted them to do.

God's blessings bring empowerment which aides in the success of a married couple, especially if they recognize the central role God should have in the marriage. This recognition prevents couples from falling into the many pitfalls the enemy has designed to destroy God's most precious sanction. When we remove either ourselves from God or the sanctity He intended we normally find our marriages filled with strife, disharmony, infidelity and brokenness. These issues were never to be part of a marriage team.

As married partners, we must know that we are empowered to succeed. Success is found in a couples desire to walk in the blessings and vision appropriated to marriage. As a marriage team, let us never find ourselves in neglect of what is most valuable to our union. Value will always be found in doing things God's way, His blessings on us and working together with our spouse helps to assure the success of our marriage team's vision. Be blessed and walk out your vision!
